About

AmeriCorps members serving through the AmeriCorps Network (AmeriCorps State and National) funded programs serve with local and national organizations to address critical community needs related to disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and in support of veterans and military families. Programs range from full time to part-time service and are found nationwide. The Technology Engineering, Environment Math and Science (T.E.E.M.S.) AmeriCorps program, housed in the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence at Georgia State University's College of Education, partners with urban elementary, middle schools, high schools, and educational organizations that seek to increase long-term student efficacy and STEM academic achievement. T.E.E.M.S. AmeriCorps members are responsible for providing supplemental instruction and support in the areas of math and science during the school day.  AmeriCorps Members also lead dynamic after school programming designed to provide homework assistance in math and science while creating fun strategies to learning.  

Part-time T.E.E.M.S. AmeriCorps members will serve alongside formal and informal educators (20hrs/week) at local schools and community organizations as a way of strengthening STEM education at the site. In addition to participating in site specific training and onboarding, T.E.E.M.S. AmeriCorps provides AmeriCorps members with ongoing training and coaching, around topics including but not limited to Effective Classroom Management, Best Practices in Urban Education, Successful STEM Engagement, Lesson Planning, etc.
